About Lakeview Health

Lakeview Health is an integrated, non-profit clinic and hospital system serving the eastern Twin Cities’ metro area and western Wisconsin. The system includes a multi-specialty physician/provider group (Stillwater Medical Group), an acute care hospital (Lakeview Hospital), and a foundation (Lakeview Foundation), which raises funds to support the health system mission. More than 300,000 residents in our core service area across Minnesota and Wisconsin have access to our continuum of services—from the prevention of illness and injury to the care of patients with complex medical conditions. The system has garnered national and local acclaim for our achievements in a number of areas, including: patient satisfaction, orthopedics, and well child care.

Mission
As a recognized leader, the mission of Lakeview Health is to promote and sponsor superior health services in the St. Croix Valley.

Vision
Lakeview Health will be the preferred regional provider of healthcare, providing leadership in primary and specialty services and supporting community wellness.

History—For over 128 years, Bringing the Best to You
For more than 128 years, bringing the best in healthcare to the local community has been a long-standing tradition at Lakeview Hospital and Stillwater Medical Group: From childbirth to end-of-life, from joyous occasions to indescribable challenges, we are a steadfast resource for individuals and families throughout the region.

Milestones
1880—Lakeview is incorporated as “Stillwater City Hospital” by 12 local women. Community Benevolent Society established to fund Stillwater’s first hospital.

1919—Stillwater City Hospital becomes Lakeview Memorial Hospital with a capacity of 52 adult beds and 10 bassinets. Community support raises over $90,000 towards the new hospital.

1936—Dr. Vacil Kalinoff and Dr. F.M. McCarten become partners in a medical practice in Stillwater. Dr. McCarten will eventually found the partnership that becomes Stillwater Medical Group.

1958—The Lakeview Memorial Hospital Association is issued a certificate of incorporation and fundraising efforts for construction of a new hospital get underway. The new facility, costing $1.6 million, opens in early 1961 due to the success of the $1 million community campaign.

1968—A second floor addition to the hospital opens, adding more than 60 new beds.

1976—The seven physicians who continue Dr. McCarten’s practice, now named Stillwater Medical Group, move into a new space adjacent to Lakeview Hospital so that they can more easily see patients in the hospital.

1986—A new surgical suite, ambulance garage, Radiology department, Emergency department, business office and medical records area are added.

1994— Because of a dramatic increase in outpatient service at Lakeview Hospital, a 26,000 square-foot expansion is completed, focusing on Surgery, Recovery, Anesthesia, Radiology, Emergency, Special Procedures, and the lobby/admitting areas. $5 million in generous community support helps fund the $12 million project.

1998—An extension is completed to house an Easy View MRI unit, which delivers rapid, quality images; digital mammography; CT heart scan, and a water-birthing suite.

1999—Stillwater Medical Group opens a clinic in Somerset, Wisconsin. Built to serve patients in Western Wisconsin, this clinic offers a variety of primary and specialty care services as well as on-site laboratory and X-ray testing.

2005—Consolidation of Lakeview Hospital and Stillwater Medical Group forming Lakeview Health System. Board approves $65 million redevelopment plan. Groundbreaking for expansion of Stillwater Medical Group Curve Crest Clinic.

2006—Lakeview Hospital partners with United Hospital and St. Paul Heart Clinic to open Lakeview Heart Center at Lakeview Hospital. Stillwater Medical Group’s Main Campus opens at Curve Crest; remodeled Stillwater Medical Group Specialty Clinic opens.

2007—Stillwater Medical Group’s remodeled Women’s Center opens.

2008—Lakeview Foundation reaches historic $20 million Capital Campaign goal. Foundation creates new mission and vision that focuses on promoting health and wellness in the community; new board members elected.
